Homelessness on Campus: Featuring SMC's Food Security Programs
CBS Sunday Morning — in a national story about housing & food insecurity among college students — featured Santa Monica College’s food security programs and Superintendent/President Dr. Kathryn E Jeffery, as well as SMC alum/UCLA transfer Maritza Lopez. Also featured was the nearby Students4Students, the first shelter in the nation run by college (UCLA) students for homeless college students. While the SMC portion begins about 08:15, we highly recommend watching the whole piece--it is incredibly moving and eye-opening.
#1 Transfer College: SMC transfers more students to UCLA, USC, the UC system and Loyola Marymount University than any other California community college.
World-class Faculty: According to Rolling Stone magazine, SMC faculty “are hired based almost solely on their effectiveness in the classroom.”
Offers Top Professional Training Programs: students are entering high-paying jobs in nursing, computer technology, early childhood education, graphic design and many more after completing exceptional training programs.
State-of-the-Art Campus: With smart classrooms and modern facilities, as well as hundreds of classes offered online, SMC is able to offer exceptional classes to a wider audience.
The SMC Foundation provides student scholarships, faculty grants, and program support year round. In addition to financial support, the Foundation serves as a valuable resource to the dozens of academic and student programs across all campuses. We are committed to growing the number of grant and scholarship recipients each and every year.
