SMCF: Tell us about your role as a leader at SMC.
CP: I enjoy different student leadership roles. As PTK president, my role is to guide students to an engaged SMC life and provide them with the tools they need to succeed. As a President’s Ambassador, my role is to represent SMC and SMC students in the community. As a Peer Mentor in the International Counseling Center, my role is to advise students on a Peer-to-Peer level.
SMCF: Why did you choose to attend SMC?
CP: Because it is the best community college in the country! I did my research and knew that SMC was the vehicle I needed to transfer to the UC system. It also has a great location, great professors and great programs.
SMCF: What about the SMC environment motivates you as a student?
CP: I am motivated by the multi-cultural, supportive environment and knowing that I can personally make a difference. My presence matters!
SMCF: “PROUD TO BE SMC” is the alumni chant. What are you, as an individual, most proud of?
CP: I’m proud of being part of such a diversified campus committed to student’s individual and collective success.
SMCF: What three (3) words best describe your experience as an SMC student?
CP: Quality, Empowerment, Diversity.
SMCF: Final question: What words of inspiration would you share with a new student starting at SMC?
CP: SMC has so many resources- knock on all the doors. It will change your life!
